KERNVILLE CAMPOUT HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS OF 9/27/2021 DUE TO UNHEALTHFUL AIR QUALITY FROM SMOKE.
---------------------
The annual Kernville Campout hasn’t been held for 2 yrs because of COVID. We have been thinking about doing it on Friday, Oct 1-Oct 3.
For those who haven’t been there, we either fly into Kernville airport or drive cars to it.There is an extensive grass area for tent camping and places adjacent for RV/campers.
There is a cafe for bkfst/lunch on THE airport. The Kern River is about 1/4 mi from camping area and I usually go fishing and usually don’t catch anything. But it’s the potential that counts.
We set up some games on the grass and there are wood tables to sit at and read, play games, drink, etc. You can bike, hike or sit. Camp area has running water.
On Fri eve, we have been driving 3 mi to town to a pizza place. There are numerous breakfast places to eat at also.
Then on Saturday eve, we go to the “That’s Italian” restaurant for a nice dinner.
I usually get there on Fri morn, flying in from home and setup tent camp. Steve Baker brings his trailer that acts as a focal point. There are showers and flush toilets but we need to check if they are open.
The camping fee for plane parking and camping was $20/day last year. I leave after bkfst at the cafe on Sunday morning.
For those who prefer sleeping in a bed, there are motels within a mile of the airport. Temps in early Oct should be pleasant during the day and chilly at night.
If you haven’t been there, it is a new adventure and enjoyable with our family of pilots.
